You Can Believe in Jesus Without Organized Religion?

Something I have been thinking about: Is it possible to be christian and not enjoy organized religion? I have a hard time thinking that people don't just go to church and such out of ritual, I want to WANT to do it. I looked at Deism, but they reject Jesus and all the teachings of modern Christianity. I believe, but more from a spiritual point of view, honestly, though, i think that's okay as long as i believe, right?

I found this blog:

Not only can you believe in Jesus without being a Christian, You can also believe in Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Brahma, Shakti, Devi without being of any particular religious persuasion.

I am really getting tired of all this religious bickering among humans. It bewilders me that more people cannot open their eyes and see that you can accept a philosophy, be tolerant and understand a philosophy without becoming or needing the religious name tag associated with it.

Look at Hinduism, it believes in One Supreme Being, yet it understands that humans need to see "God" in a way they can relate to, so a myriad of avatars are available for worshippers. The same can be said on a broader scale, if you believe in any "God" you will acknowledge his/her complexity and unmeasurable power, you will also acknowledge that every creature in this universe is a creation of "God". So how can you not accept that "God" portrayed himself in various ways to give his message to his creations. Imagine a circle with God in the center, you can approach him/her in any direction. The key to remember here, is that while there is only One God, there is uncountable paths that lead to him. No message hold more importance or significance than another, no religion is better than another. Man has corrupted the true philosophy of religion to further their own gains. As long as you follow the tenets of being a good person and the basics in regards to morals that most religions agree on, you are on the right path. You do not need ritualized worship, but if it makes you feel good, then that's the path for you. You can be an atheist and still find "God" in the end. You do not need to believe in God, if it doesn't fit your life. Just live a good life and in your next, perhaps you will no longer see the need to be an atheist.

It is time we all open our eyes and see that no one is right and no one is wrong when it comes to religious persuasion. In this life I may be a Hindu, but in my last I could have been a Christian and maybe in the next I will a Muslim. We are born into different religions or influenced by circumstances outside ourselves that cultivate what religion we choose to practice. But inside we are all the same, we are human, with a intelligence we don't yet fully understand or are quite capable of comprehending as of yet.

I was born a Hindu, I practiced hinduism most of my life, but I was also baptised in a church twice, once as a Catholic and once as a Christian, blessed and saved by a muslim mejji, shared Hannukah prayers with my Jewish friends, I see the beauty and truth in all religions. In my own family I can find the full spectrum of religious beliefs and non beliefs, yet we are related by blood. I see the fundamental message that "God" gave us all, I only wish all of humanity could see the same thing I see.

Maybe then we will realize it is not our duty to cast judgement, convert or distance ourselves from others due to the tag of religion. Maybe we will realize religion is a personal thing and can finally work towards understanding how much we are alike instead of looking at our differences.
Remember the "God in I" and start within, you will no longer need to look at others and what they believe in.

sorry for preaching, but it wasn't meant to be a sermon of any kind, just something I have always wanted to say.

http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread114549/pg1

I just thought it was interesting from another point of view. I don't see why we can't believe more than one thing: can god be found in everything? Yes. So why can't everything be embraced?
This one was a little too preachy for me, but I do appreciate what they are trying to say, and I feel better that I'm not the only one who thinks you can be a believer and not fall into a common routine with God. It keeps my relationship with him constantly new and exciting. :-)

The 19 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Death*

IN honor of the recent 19 parties, I have posted this. Random, Useless, Information.

No, Im not being creepy and morbid, I just dont want to talk about how atlanta made it to the playoffs...

1. After being decapitated, the average person remains conscious for an additional 15-20 seconds. Talk about a way to go.

2. Mourning your dear departed cat? You could shave your eyebrows like the ancient Egyptians used to. Then again, maybe a trip to the pet cemetery would be easier.

3. May want to rethink what you bury your loved ones in. An old wives’ tale claims that if a woman is buried wearing the color black, she’ll come back to haunt the family.

4. Speaking of preventing hauntings, yet another old wives tale led to the institution of burial wreaths. It was believed that the wreath would encircle the spirit of the dead person, thereby preventing them from returning from the grave.

5. In 1931, Henry Ford decided to preserve his friend, Thomas Edison’s last dying breath. He kept it in a bottle. Hope he put a label on that one.

6. One of the main reasons cowboys carried pistols in the 1800’s was to avoid being dragged to death by their horse. You think they could have just gotten bigger stirrups.

7. The last words spoken by Union General John Sedgewick were, “They (the Confederate soldiers) couldn’t hit an elephant from this dis…”

8. So much for the curse of good ole King Tut. Despite reports that all twenty-two people who were present at the exhumation kicked the bucket, twenty-one were still kicking ten years later.

9. If someone plans to jump off Mount Everest to commit suicide, you’ll need a lot of patience. It takes the average person 2.5 minutes to hit bottom. And we don’t want to know who timed it.

10. Here’s a job I definitely wouldn’t want to have. When Pyrenees beekeepers die, someone has to go around and splash every single one of their bees with black ink.

11. John Bowman, a tanner from Vermont believed that after his death he would be reincarnated with his pre-deceased wife and children. So, he ordered his house staff to have dinner on the table every night, just in case. They finally stopped in 1950 when the money finally dried up.

12. Think your décor is bad? Oscar Wilde’s last words were, "My wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death. One or other of us has got to go" He fought the wallpaper and the wallpaper won.

13. An old superstition stated that if the doors in the house were locked, the soul of a dying person couldn’t get out.

14. Yet another superstition warns against pointing at a funeral procession, with the dire warning that you’ll die within a month. More proof for that whole three fingers pointing back at you thing.

15. Might want to read the labels a little more carefully. Nearly 2,500 lefties are killed every year using products meant for righties. Who knew? Now, just back away from those right-handed scissors.

16. A pet-parrot caused a ruckus at President Andrew Jackson’s funeral. His crime? Swearing during the ceremony. Guess he should have given Polly just one more cracker.

17. That ballpoint pen? The one you’re chewing on? Might want to put it down. 100 people are killed every year by choking on a ballpoint pen. Which proves the old quote about the pen being mightier than the sword. At least some of the time.

18. Apparently, they really are virtually indestructible. A cockroach can reportedly live up to 9 days without its head. The only reason they finally kick over? Starvation.

19. And you thought sex appeal was the first to go. Allegedly, it’s actually your sight that goes first when you die. It’s your hearing that’s the last to go…. What was that?

Perfection.

I just spent a week on the most perfect vacation of my life, didn't do a lick of work, then came home only to perfect my room, clean, and play an intense game of soccer with a cute Chilean boy. All in all this was a wonderful, much needed vacation.

St. Tropez was perfect. A dream. In fact, we weren't even dead in the city, so we had the "suburb" perfection too-- alla. our hotel was ON THE BEACH. LOOK --->

(Its in the background).
Crazy, right?!

So, one day we went into downtown st. tropez. It was a 3 mile dusty hike to downtown St. Maxime, then a 20 minute "high-seas" boat right on very windy waters that an elderly gent informed me was "pas du tout assez pire que l'habitude."

But all was worth it. We saw the Citadel. THE CITADEL.

And I got to be a pirate there.

Aside from the awesomeness of that (i know, right?) The town was your classic cute Provencal village. Waterfront houses in bright colors, paintings on the dock...
WHO AM I KIDDING?! Everything was B-E-A-u-tiful.
But don't take my word for it...

Everyone should see that before they die. Let's call it a universal bucket list thing...

Even for those of us not spending much time, there was plenty to do. And one never says "no" to pirate candy on a stone bench by the sea...

Once we returned home, i refused to work on account that it would discredit the fact that I was still on vacation...not the wisest move, I'm sure...but what's done is done.

We went to the park on Sunday. Just to kick the old black and white around, when some guy just comes up and starts juggling it to us. It got really intense, sweaty, and all around the most fun I've had for a while. He told us he was from Chile, and left his name and number---we're calling him to go again tomorrow.
Too Awesome.

What an amazing continent.
What an amazing country.
What an amazing vacation.
What an amazing experience.
What an amazing life.

WARNING

Sometimes when you Google 'Penguin with a gun' you get this:

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

You won't be able to focus on anything. School, work, your significant other... they'll all be ignored in favor of Penguins Hockey...

GAME ONE: EPIC.
First off, look at this, its cute

"Is the Flyers' level of suck enough for the Pens to job them again?
do it...BUT...
last year is last year.
You had a girlfriend last year, but then she banged some dude she works with.
Things change.

If this game had any additional hype it would explode.
The Pens hate the Flyers.
The Flyers hate the Pens.
After days of talk tonight is the time for action.

Last year means nothing.
The season series means nothing.
Flyers bloggers who still think "Cindy Crysby" is witty mean nothing.

All that matters is that the playoffs are here.

A few months ago no one thought we would be here.
We are.
Fans of the 29 other teams in the league were licking their lips at the thought of a monumental collapse by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
They didn't get one.

Now it's time to show them what we can do.

We need sixteen wins.
Two more than last year.

Remember, though, Christopher Columbus didn't reach the New World and stop.
He went and killed the natives.

Same thing applies here.
No reason to stop."

Do It.

APRIL FOOLS. I SENT THIS TO MY PARENTS.

Ok, just to make sure you all understand : Michigan and Wisconson have given us some leadway on how many hours we have to require of the students in AIX ; however, Indiana is relentless. We have to make sure you get at least 30 hours of class for each class, so we have to require you to take the courses offered at the FAC as well as our supplement in order for you to recieve any credit. Because the FAC is locked down until the end of April, this will require you stay in AIX until the 25th of August. I’m verry sorry, but we have no choise in the matter. Please stop by the bureau as soon as possible to discuss your class options and express any concerns to me. I will be in the office until 19h00 this week rather than 17h00. Bon Courage, We’ll get this worked out. Merci,Kelly Conway

Totally, like, whatever.

Totally like whatever, you know?In case you hadn't noticed,it has somehow become uncoolto sound like you know what you're talking about?Or believe strongly in what you're saying?Invisible question marks and parenthetical (you know?)'shave been attaching themselves to the ends of our sentences?Even when those sentences aren't, like, questions? You know?Declarative sentences -- so-calledbecause they used to, like, DECLARE things to be trueas opposed to other things which were, like, not -have been infected by a totally hipand tragically cool interrogative tone? You know?Like, don't think I'm uncool just because I've noticed this;this is just like the word on the street, you know? It's like what I've heard?I have nothing personally invested in my own opinions, okay?I'm just inviting you to join me in my uncertainty? What has happened to our conviction?Where are the limbs out on which we once walked?Have they been, like, chopped downwith the rest of the rain forest?Or do we have, like, nothing to say?Has society become so, like, totally...I mean absolutely... You know? That we've just gotten to the point where it's just, like...whatever!And so actually our disarticulation... nessis just a clever sort of... thingto disguise the fact that we've becomethe most aggressively inarticulate generationto come along since...you know, a long, long time ago!I entreat you, I implore you, I exhort you,I challenge you: To speak with conviction. To say what you believe in a manner that bespeaksthe determination with which you believe it.Because contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker,it is not enough these days to simply QUESTION AUTHORITY.You have to speak with it, too.© Taylor Mali 2005

Best moment of my life:

Igor Larionov's daughter (Alyonka) is looking to set Geno up for a scoring chance.

Thanks to thepensblog for bringing that video to my attention.

Other Russian news:
0001
[Sarah T.]
That is not Photoshopped.
wewantthecup

"The Penguins are completely buying into Dan Bylsma's system and it shows. They're a much tougher team to play against and they display the kind of work ethic that was completely missing during the middle of the season. The Pens have picked a great time to get hot. Empty Netters points out that Bylsma' currently has the best record of any mid-season replacement coach in Penguins history.

dapperdan-292x293
[Corbin S.]

Bylsma is definitely teaching the Penguins to play to their strengths. Also, the new additions to the team have been outstanding.

Chris Kunitz has 12 points in 12 games as a Penguin.

Bill Guerin has 10 points in 9 games."

Calgary tonight, the Pens will face Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Junior Elvis Iginla (I'm not kidding, that's his name) and the Calgary Flames tonight. I really didn't need to say that, it's just cool to write out the longest name in hockey. we have to win to keep 6th against Carolina in two games.
Do It.

LETS GO PENS

IN other news,
They set up completely new classes for us in the bureau: in other words, bye bye and F***k the FAC. Kelly had some choice french words when discussing the situation the other day that suggested we may not be cooperating too wholeheartedly with them in the future, either. So, on the whole, and improvement, but not to the extent I'd like: for example, I won't get enough credits to graduate in December like I wanted. (upside, more study time for the LSAT and GRE) (other upside, more living time with the brober--eh, Deedee?!)
So, I'm taking Introduction A la Geopolitique, France en perpective, Histoire et evolution de la langue francaise et des styles, theatre francais de 17 et 18 siecles, and expression ecrite.
So, the class equivalent of "hundreds of hot chicks and one ugly one" (nashville peep show reference-dont worry if you dont get it)
In all, it kinda makes you feel like this:

On less painful notes, the south of this country I call France is finally showing signs of what it is noted for: warmth and beauty. The sun has been out all week, 15 degrees, and the wind only tugs at your skin rather than ripping it off. I plan on going to Cannes in May for the film festival, and I'll let you know if I manage to see someone famous :-P.
Why did my Mom have to send me a picture of cake?! NOW I WANT SOME~
ok, its my dad's birthday, but still...mmmmmm. My niece is now totally comfortable with the idea of "answering a computer" to talk to me rather than the phone, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Ok, I'm being random now. Pens update tomorrow, and more obnoxious opinions about how malkin and flower rock your world etc. Will probably be more France in there too somewhere...
Grace is coming this weekend---I can hardly keep my pants on, can't wait!
A+

Lolly lolly lolly get your MVP here!

Malkin = EPIC WIN
SICK.

Props to thepensblog for the recap...way too good, man

picture 20

Nice to see the Moose. First start in Mellon Arena as an opponent.
Right of the bat, things looked bleak.
Some guy scores within the first minute for the Thrash.
Anytime you do something within a minute, sans ejaculating, it is probably a good thing. 1-0.

How dumb are the Thrashers? Why wouldn't you be tanking it?
Tavares could save your franchise. Pride is one of the seven deadly sins.

The Pens, kind of recovering from the Bruins game, wait awhile to wake up.
But Bing draws a penalty, and a new-look powerplay sets up.

Malkin is finally taken off the left point, and put on the right wing.
LGP almost explodes.
After another Thrasher takes a penalty, Gonch lets one fly.
1-1.

Gonch may have won the Norris this season if he wasn't hurt.
Six goals in fifteen games. He had like 5 in the first 45 last year.

Moose kept the Thrashers in the game the rest of the period, but they couldn't give him any support. The Pens, like Peter North, just kept coming.

Finally they drew a penalty. And who else but Kunitz would cash in on the powerplay.

What a player.
A Thrasher player throws up after realizing Chris Thorburn plays on his team.

picture 24

We are so behind on everything, it isn't even funny anymore.
Having a third staffer would be money in the bank.
But we don't even have time for that process till summer.

But we like adding more work for ourselves.
We got two solid pics we'd like to see made into banners for the site:

Staal.
3-1

Staal has 20 goals out of nowhere.
Think about all the open nets he missed.
He is a 30-goal scorer.
80-plus goals from your first-, second-, and third-line centers. Man.

The Pens weren't done though.
After the Thrashers take a penalty to negate a powerplay, Malkin scores a nasty goal 4-on-4.
Off the faceoff he goes to the net, kicks the puck to his stick, and backhands it past Moose.

Period ends.

Most confusing photoshop we have ever gotten.

Usually we'd be prepared for the worst, but the Pens were in control.
Gonch gets his fourth point of the night on a sick pass to Mark Eaton on a 2-on-1.
Two defenseman on a 2-on-1. HCMT's head just exploded.
Malkin with an assist on the play. Five points.

The third period was cruise control until the Thrashers started being dicks.
Some dude got all pissed off, and the Gods smacked some dude.

Quigs? yesssssssssssssssssss.
The on-ice referee made a bad call in his honor.

Malkin tried to run the score up, but Hedberg was there.
Then Malkin got a breakaway and was tripped.

The crowd seemed confused on whether to chant "Geno" or "MVP."
We will be in attendance on Friday, and an MVP chant WILL be started. Bank.

Kunitz had one last chance to help Malkin get his sixth point.
No dice.

Okay, now for france:

Dear Fac Students,

I have additional information for you regarding the changes in our program as a result
of the strike. Please read this information carefully and feel free to come talk to us
if you have questions.

We are in the process of creating courses that are meant to replace your courses at the
Fac completely and immediately.

? First, some good news: you will have your full spring break, from April 18 ? May 4.

? Your home universities have decided that you will receive 3 credits for each 2-hour
course you take at the office.

? The spring language courses (the Cours Intensif and Expression écrite) are now
included in the figure of 12 credits that you must take this semester.

? You must take at least 12 credits worth of program courses. This figure includes the
program language courses, ?Histoire du cinéma français,? ?La France en perspective,?
and all of the new courses we are creating this week and next.

? Many of you have asked whether you can continue to take a class at the Fac that is not
on strike. We do not think this is a good idea, because it?s possible that a professor
could decide to strike later on, when it?s far too late to pick up another course, or
that a total blockage of the Fac could occur. We are thus requiring you to take 12
credits of program courses, but if you choose to take additional course at the Fac, you
can do so. I cannot allow you to risk going below the minimum 12 credits, as this would
have serious ramifications for your financial aid packages and your overall academic
progress.

? Even if the Fac re-opens completely again, you are still obliged to take 12 credits of
program courses.

? The program will go until June 27. Your home universities are requiring these extra
weeks in order to ensure thirty contact hours in the courses we have created.

? Keep checking your email everyday, because we will be updating our courses
substantially this week.

Please sign up for an appointment with me this week so that we can begin the process of
academic advising again.

Thank you for the extraordinary patience and good will you have demonstrated throughout
the semester.

Best regards,

Mme Conway

Dear students,

As promised, I am sending you a more complete chart of the new courses we are offering
at the office to replace the Fac courses. Please see the attached document.

As I mentioned before:

? each new course is worth 3 credits

? the minimum number of credits you must take is 12. This figure includes the spring
language courses.

Don't forget: your presence in class is obligatory. Role will be taken.

We're very pleased with our new plan and we hope you are, as well. I look forward to
speaking with you all as soon as possible. The sign- up sheets for our meeting are
available in the office.

If you know what you plan to take already, please send an email to Mme Féral
immediately, as she may need to rent classrooms. But you still need to come see me to
discuss your plans.

Warmest regards,

Mme Conway

Strikes in France

The Office of Overseas Study has been in close touch with its Academic Program in Aix en Provence (APA) at the Université de Provence, a consortium program shared with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Michigan.

The Aix program administrators are keeping us apprised of this strike which was initiated by faculty members in France, not disconcerted students as is usually the case.
At this point, with no resolution in sight, the consortium is faced with the unusual prospect of the cancellation of the academic semester at the Université de Provence. Since the beginning of the strike, the APA program has ensured that students have continued with their course work whether or not the course was meeting. Many of the faculty members continued to teach their courses, despite the strike, and many stayed in touch with students via e-mail. The program also organized special lectures and independent study, and privately hired faculty to teach tutorials during the strike.

The APA program has also created an array of courses for program participants taught by local French faculty to replace the courses at the Université de Provence. Due to the uncertainty of the strike situation, the APA consortium has concluded that offering APA courses is the only way to assure full academic credit for the semester whether or not the strike is resolved.

We will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and will update this statement accordingly.

For more information on Indiana University’s response to the strikes in France as it pertains to the program in Aix-en-Provence, please review the statement jointly issued by the universities in the APA consortium.

Students taking courses at the Institut d'Études Politiques are not affected by the strike and will continue to take their regularly scheduled courses at the IEP.

Kathleen Sideli

DEAR STUDENTS,
we are writing to remind you that France functions at fail level. If you are discouraged, tough. We're just gonna teach you ourselves.

*insert veiled frustration with a loving salutation*
Your Bureau.
CRY.

WHEEZE.

SIGH.
give up.
I'm taking classes at the bureau from hired tutors.
I'm dropping out of the university they made me drop out of IU for a year to go to.
I'm writing a paper about a theatre for credits I lost during a WHITE OUT.
I'm not sure what I think of all this, yet.
I'm still masochistically in love with Europe.

Home sweet Mellon.

A moment of silence, please:

Coming up:
Greve.
Hockey.
France in General.

Still on strike. 90 old guys turned in letters of resignation that made Sarkozy rejoin NATO with all of his french fury.

Pens lost yesterday. First for a while...PENSBLOG ON MORE:

"That save right there might have saved the Penguins' playoff life."
-- Bob Errey, paraphrased.

Quotes don't get more big-time than that.
MAF made a big stop with about 12 seconds left to preserve at least a point.

But should the Pens have even been in that position?
Hell yeah, they should have.
Making up a 3-goal deficit with 15 minutes to work with is no joke.

If the Pens were on a "win one, lose one" streak,
we would be pissed that the Pens "can't play 60 minutes."

If ANY sportswriter comes out and grumbles about the Pens not playing 60 minutes,
they shouldn't have a job.

Let's cut them some slack. They've won a few games in a row here.
And that third-period comeback is the calling card of a red-hot hockey team.

France.
Strikes, NATO, and kids staying out all night so that they don't have to get up in the morning to do nothing. Instead, they get up in the afternoon and work out, then stay out all night again.

The Incredible Malk started the scoring with an impossible backhand and then absolutely undressed Vokoun for the second SO goal and the win. Le-tank scored the other SO goal and nearly killed Vokoun's water bottle in the process. Cookie plastered Booth into the boards for the Sammich of the Game. Crosby went 1g 1a but was blocked in the SO.

Marc Andre Fleury faced one less shot than the stats say he did. I don't care who calls me a liar, I agree with THEFLOWERSHOP, the third Panther's goal was kicked in!

"I saw it, you saw it, somehow the footage was sabotaged between Pittsburgh and Toronto, 'cause the guys in the War Room couldn't have seen the replay that I saw. Ballard looked like he had a Soccer flashback and put it behind MAF."

I love when Malkin's parents are in town for two reasons:
1) His stats become UNREAL
2) this:
(after Geno's epic goal)

14 games. 28 points. 106.

Dying cat, or...how Russians call for help.

One cannot forecast the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.
